Wilson Ornithology Plate

Alexander Wilson's American Ornithology (Philadelphia, 1808–1814) gathered cardinals and warblers onto single copperplates engraved by Alexander Lawson, then hand-colored in brilliant crimson and slate. Each sheet pairs precise engraved line-and-stipple shading with watercolor washes laid over aged, hand-laid plate paper.

This design system reconstructs that artifact ground: a dustier grey-buff toned by two centuries of foxing — never bright cream — under cardinal crimson, warbler slate, and ink-black face masks, with period engraved letterforms standing in for the plate's etched captions.

亚历山大·威尔逊的《美国鸟类学》（费城，1808–1814）将红雀与莺类汇集于单张铜版之上，由亚历山大·劳森雕版镌刻，再以鲜亮的绯红与板岩灰手工敷色。每一幅都将精准的雕刻线条与点刻晕染，叠加在水彩淡彩与陈旧的手抄版纸之上。

本设计系统重建了那份文物质地：经两百余年霉斑沉淀而成的灰土黄底色——绝非明亮的米白——其上承载红雀绯红、莺类板岩灰与墨黑脸罩，并以古早雕版字体替代铜版上的蚀刻题注，再现 1808 年早期美国博物图谱的气息。
