About Voroneț Blue
The west wall of St George at Voroneț is a single sheet of blue with a Last Judgement painted into it in 1547. The pigment is azurite, identified in situ by Raman spectroscopy and bound in a medium nobody has yet named; it has stood outdoors for five centuries without going grey. Romanians file the colour alongside Veronese green and Rubens red.
This system takes that wall literally. The azure is the page, not a panel on it. Content stacks in hard horizontal registers separated by red-brown rules, figures sit frontal on a shared ground line, and the only bright note is halo gold — opaque, matte, never metallic.
