About Umm Kulthum Concerts
A dark system built from the first Thursday of every month: 9:30pm, Cairo, a single figure in black glasses with a white handkerchief, and an audience that stretched from Rabat to Baghdad by radio. Everything she left behind survives as gravure press plates and dark Odeon and Sono Cairo sleeves.
So the ground is gravure black, the image is silver-grey halftone, and the only colour is gold foil and curtain red. Arabic leads in Amiri, the Bulaq Press naskh cut in her own city; Latin billing follows in wide Playfair caps.
