Tashkent Seismic Modernism — Cover

About Tashkent Seismic Modernism

On 26 April 1966 an earthquake took out the centre of Tashkent. Brigades from every Soviet republic rebuilt it in under a decade, and the result is a city of precast frames engineered against seismic load and screened against the sun.

The look comes from that compromise. Cast concrete panjara screens repeat the pierced lattice of Central Asia as an industrial module; Timurid blue survives in metro ceramic and the Chorsu dome. Pale warm-grey surfaces, hard high light, and cold shadow inside every cell.
