About Lewerentz Dark Brick
Sigurd Lewerentz's late churches — St Petri in Klippan and St Mark's in Björkhagen — are built entirely from dark, near-black engineering brick, laid uncut across walls, floors and vaulted ceilings. Broad soot-gray mortar joints bind a continuous masonry mass that absorbs light rather than reflecting it.
This design system translates that severe, monastic materiality into a digital ground: an almost-black brown-gray brick body, prominent mortar gridlines, flat matte surfaces, and a single russet Corten-steel accent as the only relief.
