Romanian Ie (folk embroidered blouse)

ProMax

The Romanian ie is a peasant blouse whose cross-stitch grammar has encoded regional identity since the 17th century. Oltenia's black geometric altițe, Bukovina's red diagonal râuri, and Maramureș's white-on-white panels each speak a distinct dialect of the same textile language — one that Queen Marie wore at court and Matisse committed to canvas.

This design system translates the ie's rigid band structure into interface architecture: snow-white linen grounds, orthogonal grid alignment, cochineal-red accents, and motif borders that echo the yoke-altiță-râuri-hem hierarchy of the original garment.
