Tongan Kupesi Tapa

Tongan ngatu is barkcloth built from pasted feta'aki paper-mulberry strips, laid over carved kupesi design boards so that dye rubbed across the surface transfers the pattern as grainy, repeated registers — rubbed, never painted. Two earth dyes carry the whole language: red-brown koka from Bischofia bark juice and tongo black from mangrove and candlenut soot.

Red and black on a light tan bark ground are the fundamental Tongan colours, symbolising male and female. This system distills that two-colour, matte-cloth tradition into a digital design language of bold rubbed bands and beaten-bark texture.

汤加的恩加图（ngatu）是用纸桑树皮条（feta'aki）层叠粘贴而成的树皮布，铺在雕刻好的库佩西（kupesi）纹样木板上，再用染料在表面摩擦，使图案以颗粒粗糙、反复排列的"册页"形式拓印出来——是擦印，而非描画。两种大地染料承载全部语言：来自重阳木树皮汁的红棕色 koka，以及来自红树与烛果灰的 tongo 黑。

浅褐色树皮底上的红与黑是汤加最根本的两种颜色，象征男性与女性。本设计系统将这一双色、哑光织物的传统提炼为数字设计语言——大胆的擦印纹带与捶打过的树皮质感，拒绝奶白、纯白与任何光泽渐变。
