About Pomak Rhodope Dress
Pomak women of the western Rhodopes build their costume on the *saya* — a long open overdress worn over wide *shalvari* — not the dark sleeveless *sukman* of their Christian neighbours. Over a white veil sits a wine-red towel, bound across forehead and hair.
The whole visual language is horizontal banding woven on a narrow home loom: light yellow and orange grounds cut by grassy green and brick red, with narrow warp stripes inside the wide bands. Folklorists name this band grammar as specifically Rhodope. Everything here stacks; nothing floats.
