Patent Cyanotype Drawing (1880)

ProMax

The US Patent Office cyanotype is the white-on-Prussian-blue ammonia-developed drawing that served as the canonical technical illustration for every American invention patent between 1875 and 1920. Edison's light bulb, Bell's telephone, the Wright brothers' airplane — all rendered in this exact visual vocabulary of hairline draftsmanship on deep federal blue.

This system captures the austere authority of government documentation married to the craft of professional patent draftsmen. Every element evokes ammonia-developed paper, aged white ink, and the ornamental borders of Victorian legal documents.
