Kyrgyz Shyrdak Felt Rug

The shyrdak is a Kyrgyz mosaic felt rug made by cutting two contrasting sheets of dyed wool felt into mirrored shapes and stitching them together — the positive of one becomes the negative of the other. Mountain women in the Tien Shan and Alai valleys have been making shyrdaks for weddings and everyday use for centuries, creating bold ram-horn spirals, butterfly silhouettes, and four-petal flowers in punchy two-tone palettes.

This design system channels that cut-and-stitch clarity: colour blocks ARE the design, geometry is bilateral and mirrored, and every surface carries the warmth of pressed wool and chain-stitch edges. The palette draws from vermilion-on-cream and indigo-on-ochre pairings found in traditional rugs, grounded on a raw wool beige that feels like a yurt floor.

什尔达克（shyrdak）是吉尔吉斯游牧民族的拼贴毡毯——两片对比色羊毛毡按镜像裁剪，正形与负形交换缝合，剪裁本身就是图案。天山与阿赖山谷的妇女世代为婚礼制作什尔达克，以朱红配乳白、靛蓝配赭黄的强烈双色调，铺展出公羊角旋纹（kochkor müiz）、蝴蝶剪影和四瓣花。

这套设计系统提炼了那种剪贴式的明快：色块即构图，几何严格对称镜像，每一个界面都带着压制羊毛的温暖纹理与链式走针的边缘。底色是未染羊毛的原米色，像踏入一顶铺满毡毯的毡房。
