Nyonya Kebaya Embroidery

The nyonya kebaya is a sheer silk-voile blouse of the Straits Chinese, worked in *sulam* — fine openwork machine embroidery — with mirrored peony, rose, and chrysanthemum borders. Worn across Singapore, Malacca, and Penang from roughly 1900 to 1950, it carries the bright palette of Peranakan porcelain: rose pink, turquoise, and coral.

This design system distills that craft into digital form — a coloured rose-voile ground rather than a blank sheet, scalloped cut-work hems, openwork lattice, and high-contrast serifs that echo the delicacy of the stitch.

娘惹卡峇雅是土生华人妇女的一件薄如蝉翼的丝绡上衣，以「绣花」（sulam）细密镂空机绣工艺，绣出对称的牡丹、玫瑰与菊花边饰。约自一九〇〇至一九五〇年间，盛行于新加坡、马六甲与槟城，承袭娘惹瓷器的明丽色谱：玫瑰粉、松石绿与珊瑚橙。

本设计系统将这一手工传统转化为数字语言——以一片有色的玫瑰丝绡作底，而非一张空白纸面；扇贝形的镂空裙摆、通透的网眼花格，配以高对比衬线字体，呼应镂空针法的纤巧。绣面对称而留白通透，读来恰似一袭半透的绡纱。
