About Atlas Silk (Etles)
Atlas silk — etles in Uyghur, 艾德莱斯绸 in Chinese — is warp ikat. The warp threads are bound and dyed in layers before a single weft crosses them, so every colour edge arrives already blurred, a soft vertical halo instead of a drawn line.
This system takes the qara-atlas bolt as its surface: walnut-black silk carrying narrow vertical bands of emerald, sapphire, violet, gold and peach-red. Comb teeth, almonds, tassels. Everything repeats down the page the way a bolt repeats down the loom, and nothing is ever sharp at the seam.
