About Ushahidi Crisis Map

Ushahidi means "testimony" in Swahili. In January 2008, days into Kenya's post-election violence, a handful of Kenyan bloggers and developers put up a page where anyone with a phone could text a report onto a public map.

This system recreates that first build: a white browser ground, a fixed 800px table, a hand-painted flag banner, and small Verdana copy split between red incident pins and green peace pins. It values the reports over the frame around them.
