The Trinidad steelpan was born in the 1940s out of Carnival street percussion and the wartime abundance of discarded 200-litre oil drums. Tuners hammered, stretched, and grooved the drumhead into convex note ovals — larger ovals ringing lower pitches — then chrome-plated the finest instruments to a mirror-silver shine, the mark of a top-tier steelband pan.

This system renders that struck-metal object as interface language: a dark oil-drum ground, brass and hammered-copper warmth arcing against cold specular chrome, and concentric groove-divided geometry standing in for the pan's tuned surface. Every accent should look like it could ring if you hit it.
