Oaxaca Indigenous-Modern

ProMax

Oaxaca Indigenous-Modern is a contemporary graphic fusion grown from ASARO — the Assembly of Revolutionary Artists of Oaxaca — whose woodblock and stencil printing carries the calavera heritage of José Guadalupe Posada into present-day street activism. Color is anchored on grana cochinilla, the historic cochineal dye that runs carmine to fuchsia to magenta and turns purple when iron is added.

The system prints bold black relief marks on a dark inked woodblock field. Heavy carved outlines, rough stencil edges, calavera and Indigenous motifs, and alebrije color accents give every surface the texture of a hand-pulled print rather than a clean vector.
