About Falu Red Cottage
Falu rödfärg is water, rye flour, linseed oil and iron oxide milled from the waste of the Falun copper mine. It soaks into planed pine rather than sitting on it, so the grain and the knots still read through the colour, and it dries absolutely matte — porous, chalky, never glossy.
This system builds a page the way a cottage is built: a large flat red field of horizontal board coursing, cut by white linseed-painted trim at every corner, window and edge. The white is structural, not decoration. Type is transitional serif, with fraktur reserved for short carved strings. Nothing is rounded, nothing is blurred, nothing shines.
