About Solar Sail Regatta
A solar sail is not a mirror. It is four microns of aluminized film that photographs silver with a lilac cast, creased along its fold lines, banding into pinks and magentas wherever the membrane bends and the optical path length changes. Every colour in this system comes from that fact: the ground from LightSail 2's own onboard photographs, the team livery from Michel-Lévy's interference chart.
The regatta itself is a premise with a real precedent — the Columbus 500 Space Sail Cup, approved in 1988, entered by eight countries, never flown. This system races it anyway: Michroma for sail classes and standings, monospace for area and characteristic acceleration, and legs plotted as light-pressure curves. No burns.
