The Shakers printed broadsides the way they built furniture — nothing extra, nothing missing. Between 1810 and 1870, communal villages across New England and Kentucky produced hymn sheets, seed catalogs, and rules broadsides using wood type and letterpress in confident, ornament-light compositions that feel startlingly modern.
