About Santiago Metro Station Art

Santiago's Metro was built as a piece of state architecture, not a branding exercise. Line 1 opened in 1975 with concourses in glazed Muriglass tile, walls specified *blanco crema* under warm lamps, dark ceiling and dark floor pressing the light band into the middle of the field.

Every station then earns its own colour, its own pictogram, and — since 1992 — its own artwork, 89 MetroArte pieces fired into more than 11,000 m² of wall. This system is that concourse: a warm tile ground, a hard grotesque voice, and one orange remembered from the seats of the NS-74.
