Sabon is Jan Tschichold's 1964–67 Garamond revival, cut at once for Linotype, Monotype and Stempel handsetting so a single design would print identically across three incompatible technologies. It is a book text face before anything else: calm, classical, humanist, built for the running column and the quiet page.
This system dresses that voice in its native material — dense black letterpress ink pressed into the toned cotton-rag stock of German fine-press books. The ground is aged, foxed paper, never fresh cream and never plain white. Generous margins, a single well-set column, old-style figures and restrained roman/italic contrast carry the whole design.
