Rongorongo is the only known script of pre-contact Oceania — rows of standardized bird-man and anthropomorphic glyphs, each barely a centimeter tall, incised into planks of dark Pacific rosewood with obsidian flakes and shark teeth. Scribes worked in reverse boustrophedon: read a line left to right, then rotate the tablet 180 degrees to read the next, so the glyphs alternate upright and inverted down the board. No kohau rongorongo has ever been translated. What survives is the object itself — oiled, aged, often fire-scorched wood, its surface catching pale-gold light along freshly-cut incision edges. This design system renders that exact material fact: glyphs as thin lit lines carved into near-black ground, never solid gold, never flattened into clean digital tech surface.
