Queen — Bohemian Rhapsody (1975)

ProMax

In 1975 a four-piece rock band gave itself a coat of arms. Freddie Mercury drew a heraldic crest — two lions, a crab, two fairies, a phoenix, and a giant Q sheltering a crown — and wrapped it in the black, white, and gold of A Night at the Opera. This is that contradiction as a design language: a rock band that is also, apparently, minor royalty. Engraving-style serifs, a spotlit near-black stage, gold-leaf ornament, and the diamond four-heads-in-the-void lighting of the video. Everything is symmetrical, ceremonial, and lit from one dramatic source. Kneel accordingly.
