Gabbeh are the thick, high-pile tribal rugs hand-knotted by the Qashqai and Luri nomads of Persia's Zagros mountains. Woven from lanolin-rich wool and coloured with natural dyes, they trade fine detail for big naive colour-block fields and childlike lions, birds and animals floating in open ground. This system carries that voice into the screen: a deep indigo-teal wool field, madder-red and ochre motifs, stepped tribal borders, and the gentle tonal drift of hand-dyed wool.
