Paula Scher / Pentagram

ProMax

Paula Scher is the Pentagram partner who turned letters into architecture. From the 1994 Public Theater identity to Citibank, Bloomberg HQ, and her hand-painted maps, Scher treats typography as structural mass — condensed blacks stacked floor-to-ceiling, primaries deployed as entire rooms of color.

Her aesthetic is loud, flat, and unapologetically maximalist. Type doesn't sit on a page; it becomes the page. Readability and decoration coexist because the letters themselves ARE the decoration — the composition, the wallpaper, the building.
