Panama Canal Deco 1914

ProMax

The Panama Canal's 1914 opening produced a distinct visual language: part engineering blueprint, part American industrial confidence. Navy-ground drawings, zinc-grey lock machinery, and vermillion depth-marks on concrete walls defined a colonial-industrial aesthetic that persisted across Canal Zone signage, annual reports, and USGS map plates for decades.

This design system channels that blueprint authority — geometric sans-serif discipline, orthographic construction lines, and the restrained material palette of steel, concrete, and deep tropical water.
