Engraved Monochrome Map

Engraved monochrome cartography is the copperplate art of printing maps from a burin-cut plate: hairline coastlines, stippled relief, hachured hills, and engraved italic place names struck in warm carbon-black ink onto rag paper. The referent is the authentic aged sheet — toned, foxed paper darkened to a warm gray-tan over centuries, carrying a pressed plate-mark border.

This design system distills that intaglio tradition into a screen language: an honest darkened-parchment ground, ink-on-paper monochrome, hairline rules, stipple textures, and engraved-letter type. Flat and matte, never glossy — the discipline of the burin.

雕版单色地图学是铜版凹版印刷的制图艺术——用刻刀在铜版上刻出发丝般的海岸线、点刻的地势起伏、晕滃的山峦，以及刻印的斜体地名，再以温暖的碳黑墨色压印于破布纸上。其本源是真实的陈年图纸：历经数百年氧化、生斑、泛黄的纸张，呈温暖的灰褐色，边缘留有压印的版痕。

本设计系统将这一凹版传统转化为屏幕语言：诚实的暗化羊皮纸底色、墨色与纸面的单色对话、发丝般的细线、点刻纹理与雕刻字形。一切平整哑光、绝不光泽——这正是刻刀的纪律。
