Kaolin Porcelain Clay Pit takes its palette from the "White Alps" of St Austell — the Cornish china-clay country, where pale spoil tips of mica-and-quartz sand rise in conical terraces above grey granite. The clay reads white but is never clean: it settles into warm, dusted mineral greys, layered like sediment. Against this muted ground sits one startling note — the milky blue-turquoise of a flooded slurry pit. This is a raw mined-earth surface, not paper: plain, industrial, survey-like, with horizontal strata and a single cold lake for contrast.
