Elemental Social Housing

ProMax

Elemental's incremental social housing — Alejandro Aravena's Quinta Monroy in Iquique, Chile — answers scarcity with a radical idea: build "half a good house" well, and let families finish the rest. The aesthetic is pale grey fibre-cement and bare concrete frame, photographed under hard desert light, deliberately unfinished and diagrammatic.

This system distills that ethic into an interface language: dusty cement-grey grounds, thin construction-document linework, modular blocks with visible bare-frame gaps, and the flat clarity of Elemental's free, open-source axonometric drawings. Nothing is polished; everything is legible.
