About Gilded Age Newport
Gilded Age Newport renders the summer "cottages" of America's industrial dynasties — chief among them The Breakers, Richard Morris Hunt's 70-room palazzo for Cornelius Vanderbilt II. Walls of deep bottle-green silk damask sit inside gilt-bronze ormolu mouldings, carved walnut, and polished marble.
This is opulence as a balance sheet made visible: symmetrical Beaux-Arts axes, monumental serif titling, jewel-toned crimson and gold. Every surface is worked, framed, and gilded — restraint was never the point.
