The Fifth Element

The Fifth Element is Luc Besson's 1997 vision of 2263 New York, designed by comic legend Jean "Moebius" Giraud and dressed by Jean Paul Gaultier. Its signature image is the vertical traffic canyon: soaring buildings plunging into a teal-blue shadowed gap through which tangerine flying cars streak.

This design system runs on collision — electric orange punching out of cool teal dark, glowing edge-lit panels, strong verticals, and diagonal motion streaks. It is maximal, layered, and unapologetically retro-chic.
