Ergo Proxy (Manglobe, dir. Shūkō Murase, 2006) is a neo-noir sci-fi anime sealed inside the domed city of Romdeau. Its visual world is almost religiously dark — a near-monochromatic wall of gunmetal blue-grey concrete under perpetual haze, gothic and expressionist in mood, where light is scarce and every surface reads as institutional, cold, and load-bearing.
The palette breaks its own austerity only rarely, with a single dark blood-red used as punctuation rather than fill. This is a design system for interiors that never see open sky — for signage, monoliths, and mechanical-angel silhouettes standing in perpetual fog, never for warmth or comfort.
