High in the Dagestan mountains, the village of Kubachi has been the premier silversmith centre of the Caucasus for centuries. Its signature technique is niello: a deep-black metal-sulfide alloy melted into hand-engraved lines on brightly polished silver, so intertwined plant tendrils read as black scrollwork against a gleaming metallic ground, sometimes lifted with gold gilding.
This design system translates that chased-metal language to screen — a specular cool-silver ground, niello-black line ornament in horror-vacui density, engraved Latin and Arabic-script typography, and gold gilt reserved for the highest accents.
