Bahraini Dhow Pearl-Diving Boat

ProMax

Before oil, Bahrain ran on pearls. For four thousand years, free-divers dropped thirty meters on stone weights into the shallow turquoise waters south of Sitra, harvesting lulu oysters whose pearls ended up in Mughal bezels and Cartier necklaces. This design system captures the dhow-yard at low tide — sun-bleached canvas, date-wood planking, the mineral turquoise of Gulf shallows, and the quiet iridescence of mother-of-pearl drying on deck.

The palette is warm but clean: true Gulf turquoise as the ground, canvas-cream surfaces for content, deep-sea indigo for ink and emphasis. Typography pairs auction-house serifs with editorial body text, and every ornamental detail — lateen-sail triangles, pearl-row dots, hull-curve dividers — traces back to a real artifact of the trade.
