Fernando Meirelles' Cidade de Deus (2002) burns its world onto 35mm: sun-baked favela frames with blown-out 1970s-Rio highlights spilling over orange brick and dusty earth. Golden, saturated youth-scene tones run hot, then shift cooler and desaturated as the story darkens.
This design system distills that grading into screen — a hot-orange brick ground, ochre blown highlights, kinetic knife-rhythm credit graphics, and ever-present film grain. Warmth and noise are features, not flaws.
