Charcoal & Conté Drawing

ProMax

Charcoal and Conté life drawing is the classic three-chalk method: dense vine-charcoal darks and white-chalk highlights worked against a warm mid-tone paper, so both extremes read against the middle value. The Met describes charcoal as warmer than graphite — black-brown to dense black, never a cold pure black.

This design system translates that atelier discipline to the screen — a true gray-taupe paper ground with visible tooth, smudged charcoal gradients, and chalk-white callouts. Restrained, classical, generously leaded roman serifs carry the academic register.
