Cairo Metro Wayfinding

Cairo Metro Line 1, opened in 1987 between Helwan and Ramses, was the first full metro in Africa and the Arab world. Built with French RATP expertise, its identity is a bold red roundel, vitreous-enamel sign panels, and bilingual station tiling that sets Helvetica beside Arabic naskh as co-equals.

This design system distills that platform-wall language into digital form: a deep enamel signage-red field — never white — keyed to Line 1, with bright roundel red, directional arrows, line-colour bands, and a strict international-style grid.

开罗地铁一号线于 1987 年开通，连接赫勒万与拉美西斯，是非洲与阿拉伯世界第一条完整地铁。它由法国 RATP 协助建设，标识系统以醒目的红色圆形徽标、搪瓷标牌面板，以及拉丁字母（Helvetica）与阿拉伯纳斯赫体并列对等的双语站名瓷砖为核心。

本设计系统将这套站台墙面语言转译为数字界面：以深搪瓷信号红为底色——绝非白色——对应一号线的红色识别，辅以明亮的圆牌红、方向箭头、线路色带，以及严谨的国际主义网格秩序。
