About Bombay Marine Drive Deco
Bombay Deco is Art Deco built in reinforced concrete and finished in painted cement plaster — pale butter-yellow blocks that curve like ship prows along the Back Bay reclamation, banded in mint sea-green and orange, crowned with stepped turrets.
It is a daylight style, not a neon one. Cast shadows under projecting eyebrows do the work that glow does in Miami. Nameplates set Latin capitals over Devanagari on the same facade, and that bilingual plate — not borrowed ornament — is the Indian signature of the ensemble.
