About Bolesławiec Pottery
Bolesławiec has fired stoneware from local Silesian clay since the Middle Ages, but the look the world recognises is younger: milky white glaze under cobalt stamping, settled around the town's ceramic school in the early 1900s. The signature is the peacock's eye — *pawie oczko* — a ring-and-dot cut from natural sea sponge and pressed one impression at a time.
That one-at-a-time part is the whole design. Density thickens where the hand pressed harder, registration drifts across a curved wall, and the cobalt pools dark in each stamp interior. Everything sits on white: the glaze is the page, the cobalt is drawn on it.
