Basotho Seanamarena Blanket

ProMax

In the highlands of Lesotho, the Seanamarena — the "Royal Crown Jewel" of Basotho blankets — has wrapped mountain shoulders since the early 20th century, worn at initiation, marriage, and mourning alike. Its Poone design lays a maize-cob motif in gold across a saturated cobalt-blue wool field, a pattern read by every Mosotho as a mark of standing. Bordered in chestnut-brown and gold stripes and carrying the signature pin-stripe hallmark, the blanket is less decoration than document — its motifs recording lineage, rank, and rite in woven wool rather than ink.
