Puerto Rican Bomba & Plena

ProMax

Bomba and plena are Puerto Rico's oldest Afro-descended musical traditions — bomba born in 17th-century enslaved gatherings at Loíza Aldea, plena emerging as sung street journalism in early-1900s Ponce. Their visual world is barrel drums painted blood-red, flared white-petticoat dance skirts, coconut-shell vejigante masks, and hand-lettered barrio walls against the deep blue of a Caribbean night festival.

This design system captures that night-festival atmosphere: warm cream type on tropical blue, accents of drum-red and ochre gold, hand-drawn ornament, and the dignified folk-programme aesthetic of a community rooted in lineage.
