Balinese Poleng Cloth

Poleng is Bali's sacred checkerboard cloth — a bold black-and-white square grid wrapped around shrine statues, banyan trunks, and guardian figures. The word "poleng" means "square," and its pure two-tone duality embodies Rwa Bhineda: the cosmic balance of opposites, light and dark held in perfect equilibrium.

This design system distills that ritual textile into a hard-edged digital grammar — equal orthogonal squares, no gradients, crisp coarse-cotton edges, and the deep black ground that anchors the sacred contrast. Gray (Sudamala) and red (Tridatu) appear only as restrained ritual variants.

Poleng（波伦）是巴厘岛的神圣方格布——黑白相间的方块网格，缠绕在神庙石像、菩提古树和守护神像之上。"Poleng" 在巴厘语中意为"方格"，其纯粹的黑白二元性体现了 Rwa Bhineda（双生对立）的宇宙观：明与暗、善与恶，在完美的平衡中并存。

本设计系统将这一仪式织物提炼为一套硬边数字语言——等大的正交方块、绝无渐变、粗棉布般的锐利边缘，以及锚定神圣对比的深黑底色。灰色（Sudamala 净化灰）与红色（Tridatu 三神红）仅作为克制的仪式变体出现，绝不喧宾夺主。
