Akan Carved Stool

ProMax

Akan ceremonial stools — the sika dwa of pre-1900 Ghana — are carved from a single block of pale-to-amber sese wood, glowing a saturated honey-brown with a crescent seat lifted over a carved supporting column. Antique stools deepen into darker patina, and ancestral stools are blackened after a leader's death.

This design system distills that single-block carving tradition: a warm amber-brown wood ground, hand-adzed faceted grain, crescent and column silhouettes, and Adinkra-symbol accents. Never cream, never glossy — matte carved wood from fresh-cut to blackened.
