Asafo Fante Flag Appliqué

ProMax

Asafo frankaa are the appliqué war-flags of the Fante military companies of coastal Ghana: cut cotton figures — warriors, animals, proverb motifs — stitched onto a solid-color cotton field, often with a small Union Jack canton in the top-hoist on pre-1957 examples. Each flag stages a visual proverb in flat, opaque cut-cloth silhouette, meant to be read at a glance across a parade ground. This referent captures the deep-green field variant: saffron-yellow, blood-red, indigo and off-white figures appliquéd onto a solid company-green cotton ground. The result is poster-like and declarative — bold color-blocks, hard edges, stitched seams — a banner built to assert a company's strength and wit in cloth.
