Arcosanti Arcology

ProMax

Arcosanti is Paolo Soleri's experimental arcology, rising from the Arizona high desert since 1970 as a living argument that architecture and ecology are the same discipline. Its silt-cast tilt-up concrete apses and half-domes were poured directly against earthen molds, so the buildings emerged already the color of the land around them — a warm, saturated ochre-tan loam, hand-cast and matte.

Against that earthen mass, Soleri set only the barest accents: cast bronze wind-bells, sold to fund construction, and rare daubs of pastel on interior surfaces. The result is a visual language of compression and shadow, thick walls and circular apertures, where geometry stays humble and the desert itself supplies the palette.
