About Ant Farm Inflatables

Ant Farm was founded in San Francisco in 1968 by Chip Lord, Doug Michels, and later Curtis Schreier — architects who traded blueprints for air pumps and vinyl sheeting. Their pneumatic domes and 50×50-foot inflatable pillows were cheap, collapsible, nomadic structures built for communes and desert happenings, documented in grainy Inflatocookbook photographs of translucent blue film glowing against darkening high-desert scrub.

This is not sleek architecture — it is DIY agitprop: chunky poster type, bulging vinyl geometry, and a soft electric-blue glow that reads as sky trapped inside plastic. The palette stays hand-built and slightly hazy, never corporate, never clean.
