About Acehnese Rencong Motif
The rencong is a short curved dagger from Aceh whose silhouette is not decorated with writing — it *is* writing. Morphology research at the Aceh Museum reads the whole profile as huruf gundul spelling Bismillah: straight spine, sudden hook at pommel and tip.
Around it sits Kerawang Gayo, an ornament system with a documented black ground and exactly four motif colours — red, white, green, yellow — laid flat and opaque, never blended. This system takes both facts literally: black forged steel, four colours at full strength, letterforms carrying shape.
