About Zulu Beadwork (KwaZulu-Natal)关于 Zulu Beadwork (KwaZulu-Natal)

Zulu beadwork is southern Africa's most coded social-messaging textile — for two centuries Zulu women of KwaZulu-Natal have hand-strung tiny glass beads into ucu love-letters and isigege courting-aprons where each color and chevron encodes a specific romantic, marital, or clan message.

The visual is saturated primary glass-beads on cream canvas: red passion, blue fidelity, yellow wealth, green jealousy, black sorrow, white purity — bright flat colors locked into bilaterally-symmetric chevron, triangle, diamond, and parallelogram grids.
