Pattachitra (Odisha Temple Scroll)

ProMax

Pattachitra is the temple-scroll painting of Odisha — a thousand-year-old chitrakar craft from Raghurajpur and Puri, painted on palm-leaf and cotton cloth for the Jagannath Temple. Every figure is bound by a thick coconut-soot outline, filled with flat saturated mineral pigment, and ringed by a dense floral border-band.

No perspective, no shading — only saturated narrative registered band-by-band down a vertical scroll. The vocabulary is fixed: the Jagannath triad, the Dashavatara, Krishna leelas, conch, chakra, lotus, peacock. The medium is mineral pigment bound by neem-tree gum.
