The Yolŋu banumbirr, or Morning Star pole, is a ceremonial mortuary object carried in mortuary rites across Arnhem Land: a wooden pole wound with banded rings of ochre, crowned with white cockatoo down and lorikeet feathers tethered by string. Rings climb the curved shaft in black, rising orange, and chalky white, overlaid with fine rarrk cross-hatching drawn in yellow, white, and red ochre using a human-hair marwat brush.

This design system renders that pole as a digital surface: a deep ochre-brown ground carrying banded registers of gold-yellow, red, and chalky-white hatchwork. It is built for interfaces that want to feel carved, banded, and ceremonial rather than flat or synthetic — warm dark grounds, fine linework, and a single unmistakable gold accent standing in for the morning star itself.
