About Vigan Bahay na Bato
The bahay na bato is a hybrid: a Spanish floor plan, Chinese carpentry and roof pitch, Ilocano stone and hardwood. Its signature is the sliding window — squares of windowpane oyster shell, cut thin enough to pass light, set into a narra muntin grid that runs the whole upper storey.
Nothing here is transparent. Shell diffuses light instead of admitting it, so every surface reads as a pale warm field held inside dark timber. The lattice is the identity: small squares, repeated, doubling where two leaves overlap on their track.
